Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Cinnamon Swirl

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon to evenly distribute the spices and leavening agents.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar until light and fluffy, forming a creamy base that tenderizes the bread.
  3. Add Eggs and Buttermilk: Incorporate eggs one at a time into the butter mixture. Then alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients, to make a smooth, balanced batter.
  4. Create the Cinnamon Swirl: Separately mix the additional cinnamon and sugar. Lightly fold half of this mixture into the batter. Pour half of the batter into a greased loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the remaining cinnamon sugar on top, then add the rest of the batter for a beautiful swirl effect.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Bake the bread at 350°F (175°C) for 50 to 60 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 15 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely to avoid sogginess before slicing.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter, eggs, and buttermilk for better mixing and rise.
  • Do not overmix the batter to prevent a dense or tough loaf.
  • Use a butter knife to evenly spread the cinnamon sugar for a perfect swirl.
  • Check doneness with a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf.
  • Prefer fresh cinnamon for a more potent and warm flavor.
