Description

Buffalo Chicken Strombolis are a delicious snack combining tender chicken tossed in zesty buffalo sauce, creamy cheeses, and a golden flaky crust. Perfectly balancing spicy, crispy, and cheesy elements, this comforting dish is ideal for game day or any casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 pre-made pizza dough (about 12 x 8 inches rolled out)

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or diced
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions or chives
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Finishing

  • Olive oil, for brushing

Optional for Serving

  • Ranch or blue cheese dressing (for dipping)
  • Fresh parsley or additional green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, combine the shredded or diced cooked chicken with buffalo sauce. Add softened cream cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese, mixing until the mixture is creamy and well coated. Season with salt, pepper, and sliced green onions for added flavor and crunch.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle approximately 12 by 8 inches, ensuring even thickness to prevent tearing when filled.
  3. Assemble the Stromboli: Spread the buffalo chicken mixture evenly down the center of the dough, leaving about an inch of space on each side for sealing. Fold one side of the dough over the filling, then the other side, pinching the seams tightly to avoid leakage during baking.
  4. Brush and Bake: Brush the stromboli crust with olive oil to promote browning and crispness. Cut a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
  5. Cool and Slice: Let the stromboli rest for 5 minutes after baking to allow the filling to set and make slicing easier. Cut into thick slices and serve warm, optionally with ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.

Notes

  • Allow dough to come to room temperature before rolling to prevent tearing.
  • Do not overfill the stromboli to avoid bursting during baking.
  • Use toothpicks to secure seams if needed while baking.
  • For a shinier crust, brush with egg wash instead of olive oil.
  • Cool slightly before slicing to keep slices neat and prevent filling from spilling out.
