Description

Coconut Laddoos are a quick and traditional Indian sweet made from fresh grated coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and aromatic cardamom. These bite-sized treats boast a rich tropical flavor and creamy texture, perfect for festive occasions or a simple homemade dessert. Ready in under 20 minutes with minimal ingredients, this recipe is easy to follow and guarantees delicious, authentic laddoos every time.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh grated coconut (or unsweetened desiccated coconut)
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)

Optional Garnishes

  • Chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, cashews) as desired
  • Extra grated coconut for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Start by grating fresh coconut or use unsweetened desiccated coconut if fresh isn’t available. Measure out your condensed milk, cardamom powder, and ghee so everything is ready to go.
  2. Cook the Mixture: In a non-stick pan, heat the ghee on medium flame. Add the grated coconut and sauté gently for 2-3 minutes to slightly dry and toast it, enhancing its flavor without burning.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk and Spice: Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and sprinkle cardamom powder over the coconut. Stir continuously to blend and cook the mixture until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Cool Slightly and Form Laddoos: Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool enough to handle. While still warm, grease your palms with ghee and shape the mixture into small, round balls—your Coconut Laddoos.
  5. Garnish and Set: If using nuts or extra coconut, gently press them onto the laddoos for decoration. Allow them to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator for a firmer texture before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh grated coconut for the best aroma and moist texture.
  • A non-stick pan is recommended to prevent sticking and ease stirring.
  • Stir continuously when adding condensed milk to avoid lumps and uneven cooking.
  • Cool the mixture slightly to help the laddoos hold their shape without being too sticky or crumbly.
  • Do not overcook; stop once the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan for softness.
