Ingredients
Scale
Meatball Ingredients
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, turkey, or mixed)
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs (or almond flour/gluten-free crumbs for gluten-free)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Sauce Ingredients
- 3 cloves garlic, minced (fresh)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
- 1–2 tbsp water (to adjust sauce consistency)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (for cooking)
Garnishes (Optional)
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- Red pepper flakes or sriracha (for spicy variation)
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined to keep the meatballs tender and moist. Avoid overmixing to prevent toughness.
- Shape the Meatballs: Using your hands or a small ice cream scoop, form evenly sized meatballs about 1 inch in diameter for even cooking and presentation.
- Brown the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches without overcrowding. Brown each side for 2–3 minutes until golden. Transfer browned meatballs to a plate.
- Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to low and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in honey, soy sauce, ketchup or tomato paste, and water. Bring mixture to a simmer.
- Combine and Simmer: Return the meatballs to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Cover and simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and meatballs to cook through.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds on top. Serve hot with your favorite sides like jasmine rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic for the best flavor, avoiding processed harshness.
- Mix meatball ingredients gently to keep meatballs tender.
- Shape meatballs uniformly for even cooking and good presentation.
- Simmer sauce gently rather than boiling to keep it glossy and meatballs tender.
- Adjust honey and soy sauce amounts to balance sweetness and saltiness according to taste.
