Ingredients

Scale

Meatball Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, turkey, or mixed)
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs (or almond flour/gluten-free crumbs for gluten-free)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Sauce Ingredients

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (fresh)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
  • 12 tbsp water (to adjust sauce consistency)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (for cooking)

Garnishes (Optional)

  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Red pepper flakes or sriracha (for spicy variation)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined to keep the meatballs tender and moist. Avoid overmixing to prevent toughness.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: Using your hands or a small ice cream scoop, form evenly sized meatballs about 1 inch in diameter for even cooking and presentation.
  3. Brown the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches without overcrowding. Brown each side for 2–3 minutes until golden. Transfer browned meatballs to a plate.
  4. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to low and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in honey, soy sauce, ketchup or tomato paste, and water. Bring mixture to a simmer.
  5. Combine and Simmer: Return the meatballs to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Cover and simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and meatballs to cook through.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds on top. Serve hot with your favorite sides like jasmine rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor, avoiding processed harshness.
  • Mix meatball ingredients gently to keep meatballs tender.
  • Shape meatballs uniformly for even cooking and good presentation.
  • Simmer sauce gently rather than boiling to keep it glossy and meatballs tender.
  • Adjust honey and soy sauce amounts to balance sweetness and saltiness according to taste.
