Peach Cobbler

Peach Cobbler

This Peach Cobbler recipe is a quick and delicious Southern dessert that combines sweet, juicy peaches with a tender, golden crust. Perfect for any occasion, it uses simple ingredients and easy steps to create a warm, comforting treat that pairs wonderfully with ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 4 cups fresh or canned peaches (peeled, pitted, and sliced)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, to brighten flavors)

Batter / Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend for gluten-free option)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk for vegan)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter (or coconut oil for vegan)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peaches: Peel, pit, and slice fresh peaches if using fresh. In a bowl, combine the peaches with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let the mixture sit briefly to allow the juices and flavors to mingle.
  2. Make the Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Slowly stir in milk and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth but still thick. Melt the butter and set aside.
  3. Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the melted butter evenly into the bottom of a prepared baking dish. Without stirring, spoon the batter over the butter in an even layer. Gently drop spoonfuls of the peach mixture over the batter, allowing the juices to seep down.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 45 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly around the edges.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the batter to keep it light and airy.
  • Use fresh peaches when possible for the best flavor.
  • Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your peaches.
  • Always pour melted butter first to achieve a crispy crust bottom.
  • Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving to meld the flavors.
