Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables & Bread
- 1 large round loaf of bread (sourdough or boule recommended)
- 8 oz fresh spinach
- 1 cup chopped artichoke hearts (canned or jarred, drained)
Dairy & Creamy Elements
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise or sour cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Seasonings
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread Bowl: Slice the top off your round loaf of bread and carefully hollow out the inside, creating a spacious bowl. Reserve the removed bread pieces for dipping or snacking.
- Cook the Spinach: Sauté fresh spinach in a pan over medium heat until just wilted. Drain thoroughly to remove excess moisture to prevent sogginess.
- Mix the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked spinach, chopped artichoke hearts, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise or sour cream, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended and creamy.
- Stuff the Bread Bowl: Fill the hollowed-out bread bowl with the spinach artichoke mixture, pressing gently to fill every corner.
- Bake Until Golden and Bubbling: Place the stuffed bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and bread edges are toasted brown.
- Serve Warm: Let cool slightly, then slice off the top, use it for dipping, and enjoy the creamy, cheesy filling directly from the bread bowl.
Notes
- Drain spinach thoroughly to keep the bread bowl crisp and avoid sogginess.
- Choose a dense bread like sourdough or boule for the best structure and support.
- Bring cheeses to room temperature before mixing for easier blending.
- For extra crunch, sprinkle panko breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan on top before baking.
- Bake the filled bread bowl on a tray to catch any drips and ease cleanup.
