Description

Taco Bubble-Up Casserole is a quick, flavorful, and comforting dish that combines seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and buttery crescent roll dough into a layered casserole perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings. This recipe is easy to customize, family-friendly, and requires minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 can (8 oz) crescent roll dough
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup salsa

Optional Toppings

  • Sour cream
  • Sliced black olives
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Chopped green onions
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Taco Meat: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat, then add the taco seasoning mix and a splash of water. Simmer until the mixture thickens and flavors meld.
  2. Preheat and Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a casserole dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  3. Layer the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent dough and separate into individual triangles. Arrange half of the triangles in the bottom of the baking dish, slightly overlapping to create an even base layer.
  4. Add the Taco Meat and Toppings: Spread the seasoned beef evenly over the crescent roll base. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top, then spoon a couple of spoonfuls of salsa over the cheese.
  5. Add the Final Crescent Layer and Cheese: Cover the beef mixture with the remaining crescent roll triangles, overlapping as before. Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly on top.
  6. Bake Until Golden: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are puffed, golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Top with optional garnishes such as sour cream, diced tomatoes, chopped cilantro, or green onions. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure crescent rolls overlap to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
  • Drain cooked beef well to avoid a greasy casserole.
  • Remove casserole as soon as the crust is golden to keep it tender.
  • Use fresh salsa and good quality cheese for best flavor.
  • Let the casserole rest briefly before slicing to maintain shape.
