Ingredients
Scale
Salmon
- 4 fresh skin-on salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1–2 tablespoons olive oil or butter (for searing)
Orange Glaze
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (preferably freshly squeezed)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (use low-sodium or tamari for variations)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger or ground ginger
Instructions
- Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together fresh orange juice, honey or maple syrup, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger until well combined to create a sweet and tangy glaze.
- Season the Salmon: Pat salmon fillets dry with a paper towel. Lightly season both sides with salt and pepper to enhance the natural flavors.
- Sear the Salmon: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place salmon fillets skin-side down and cook for 4-5 minutes without moving to crisp the skin and create a golden crust.
- Flip and Glaze: Carefully flip the salmon and pour the orange glaze over the fillets. Reduce heat slightly and cook for another 3-4 minutes, spooning the glaze over the fillets frequently to create a sticky, flavorful coating.
- Finish and Serve: Once salmon is cooked through and the glaze has thickened slightly, remove from heat. Allow fillets to rest briefly to lock in moisture before serving.
Notes
- Use freshly squeezed orange juice for a brighter glaze.
- Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure even cooking and a crisp sear.
- Keep skin on to help salmon hold its shape and add texture.
- Control heat to medium or medium-high to caramelize glaze without burning.
- If glaze is too thin, simmer separately to thicken before adding to salmon.
